Amazon's Top 50 of 2005

Amazon's Top 50 editor's picks for 2005. And the editor's ficiton/lit choices. And the people's choices. An interesting twist: Anne Rice is in their list of the top ten Christian books.

New York Times Notables

The NYT Notable Books list is out.  Whatever the canon is (or is not, or is becoming), this list is one of the places that inclusion among Books People Respect can begin.

Begging the Question

This site does not do that, and they know what they're not doing, too.

writefight

i meant to post this earlier, but i forgot. here it is now.

writefight - they provide a title. you write a story based on the title. turn it in before the given deadline. whoever has the best story, based upon votes, wins. winners get nothing, only satisfaction. any other information you need can be found in the f.a.q.

i participated once. my story was pitiful, but it was fun, nonetheless. the site is based on songfight, which i participate in more than writefight. both sites pretty much rule. songfight is better known, though. it's been around for about five years, whereas writefight has only been up since april.

anyways, there you go.

Scott Adams Blogging on Writer's Block

I recently subscribed to Scott Anderson's blog with my faithful RSS reader.  (I use the free "lite" version hidden at the bottom of the page.  I always feel like the company is trying to mess with me when they have a perfectly good free version that they hide underneath the pay version.  Somehow I think that if they put the free version right out in the open, I'd feel more like the pay version had something in it that was worth the price.)  But I was saying: Scott Anderson's blog.  Anderson writes Dilbert, one of the great literary records of contemporary cubicle culture, and his blog is making me laugh.  Which I need to do: busy, rough days lately.

Here, he writes about writer's block.  Scroll through entries to take a look at the cartoons his editors have asked him to change for publication.
